In the lull….

The week between Christmas and New Year’s has always felt like a time to reflect, to organize, to assess. To gear up but to throttle back. It doesn’t make sense trying to explain, but it feels a bit like a vortex, a few days out of time where normal rules do not apply.

Amanda Yi, whose blog this is, and I am honored to write for, celebrates her birthday in this week. In fact, this very day! Happy Birthday to YOU, Amanda!!!

(And go check out the fantastic chalkboard fonts link she has up on her page – I just downloaded a few more I didn’t have!)

We (I use the collective, all inclusive ‘we’ here) are cleaning up from Christmas, when we were geared up and hoping like crazy to have found the perfect gifts, we’ve had our time together, and are enjoying what we’ve gotten, and the memories we’ve made. We are looking toward the new year, perhaps planning some resolutions, maybe thinking of what time will bring about for changes.

I am no different from anyone else in this regard. However, a few years ago I stopped thinking about resolutions per se, when I began an Art Journaling Caravan, and picked a word for the year, and then words per month. I’ve also dipped into One Little Word, and I have an All About Me book. These all germinate during this week, between the end of the year Christmas craziness and the New Year just ahead. As I write this today I have not yet decided what I might work toward in my journey of self-discovery for 2015. I did just get word that my daughter’s mother-in-law passed away last night. I’m sure that news will affect my thoughts for how I plan to proceed.

For the next day or so I’ll let these ideas float around a bit, and by 1/1/15 I’ll hopefully be ready to commit to something that I’ll at least begin! (Being honest here – I sometimes make a very good start, it is the follow through that becomes the issue, so perhaps THAT should be the REAL goal?)

No matter what you choose for your New Year, I hope it is prosperous, healthy, and fun!

Happy scrapping!

Cards in the shape of stars

I am getting layouts ready for scrapping, and I have my Santa hat and bright red scarf all packed.

You still have a few days left to finish up the last minute things, and to plan out some layouts. Most of all, remember to relax, to breath, to enjoy the season, and to love. That is the most important gift of all.

Merry Christmas!

Let’s talk about fonts!

Sorry for my late posting today – I’m sure just like me, you all are super busy too.

With the holidays come lots of photos. To a scrapper that means tons of layouts! And for those layouts, it is as much about the words, as it is the pictures. So, we need fonts.

If you don’t already have enough (and who does, right!?!) there are LOTS of places to see what fonts you might NEED. Yes, we all have certain needs – one of mine is fonts!

There are several here I didn’t have. I do now, I love freebies! (Images are all linked).

DIY Tuesday – Fabric Covered Canvas Wall Art

Tuesday is here again! Are you ready for this week’s DIY project? I had this pinned for a while and FINALLY got to give it a try when my son FINALLY got his own room! Living at home with my mom and having to share a room with my child, I never had the excitement of “nesting” much. However, my brother moved out a few months back, so it was time to get to work, and boy did I have fun! You can do so much with these, put various things on them, and just have loads of fun! Check em out!

The walls were kinda bare so I needed to add a little something to them. I took a trip to the craft store and purchased 2 canvas boards sized 10×10 inches. Aiden’s room is Thomas and Friends themed, and when I purchased his bed set, it came with adorable sheets (we don’t use flat sheets so they were great to add extras in his room!) – I took an old red t-shirt and wrapped, staples and trimmed the edges of the fabrics. BAM! That’s it! Check out mine 🙂

As you can see I preferred to have them over his bed, they can go almost anywhere and you can make them obviously what ever color or style you would like!! My plan is to get larger canvas next time for my room and have it fit over my full size bed, neat huh! WAY cooler than headboards 😉 LOL

Well, hope I have inspired you to get your hands dirty! CHECK OUT MY DIY BOARD FOR MORE INSPIRATION! And stay tuned for next weeks DIY Tuesday post! Come back tomorrow and check out this week’s What’s Cookin’ Wednesday post 🙂 I’m sure you will be drooling!

Amanda ❤

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

A new tradition we began for our grandsons is the Elf on the Shelf. You’d have to really be out of touch to not know what I am referring to. Ours (I use that term loosely, he really hangs out with the boys) is named Fisbee, thanks to a creative then 5yo. Fisbee has found the boys when they are down visiting us, and luckily, knows his way back home, too! And every antic is marveled at with a big smile and lots of delight, and then explained, when asked “HOW did he DO that?” by a totally logical either 6yo or 3yo voice saying, “It’s Christmas magic!”

Fisbee doesn’t perform some of the ‘naughty’ stunts that I see so many other elves up to (have you searched Pinterest lately?) I like the idea that since he is reporting to Santa on the behavior of the boys that he not be a bad influence. He likes to climb and hang upside down, and borrow an occasional toy of theirs, but he doesn’t make messes or do things he’d get in trouble for.

There are TONS of elf kits out there. Have you found them? If you want the most darling freebie (and it coordinates with her newest kit if you want TONS of papers and elements) Simple Pleasure Designs by Jennifer Fehr is where to start.

In fact, today she’s beginning her 12 Days of Christmas, and offering one collection each day for 40% off!

If you are in the mood for browsing a few other kits, here are some (images all linked) that I also like!
