DIY Tuesday – Fabric Covered Canvas Wall Art

Tuesday is here again! Are you ready for this week’s DIY project? I had this pinned for a while and FINALLY got to give it a try when my son FINALLY got his own room! Living at home with my mom and having to share a room with my child, I never had the excitement of “nesting” much. However, my brother moved out a few months back, so it was time to get to work, and boy did I have fun! You can do so much with these, put various things on them, and just have loads of fun! Check em out!

The walls were kinda bare so I needed to add a little something to them. I took a trip to the craft store and purchased 2 canvas boards sized 10×10 inches. Aiden’s room is Thomas and Friends themed, and when I purchased his bed set, it came with adorable sheets (we don’t use flat sheets so they were great to add extras in his room!) – I took an old red t-shirt and wrapped, staples and trimmed the edges of the fabrics. BAM! That’s it! Check out mine 🙂

As you can see I preferred to have them over his bed, they can go almost anywhere and you can make them obviously what ever color or style you would like!! My plan is to get larger canvas next time for my room and have it fit over my full size bed, neat huh! WAY cooler than headboards 😉 LOL

Well, hope I have inspired you to get your hands dirty! CHECK OUT MY DIY BOARD FOR MORE INSPIRATION! And stay tuned for next weeks DIY Tuesday post! Come back tomorrow and check out this week’s What’s Cookin’ Wednesday post 🙂 I’m sure you will be drooling!

What’s Cookin’ Wednesday – Creamy Lemon Crumb Squares!

Hey guys! Amanda here, back again to bring you our first ever What’s Cookin’ Wednesday post on the AYD blog! Man I am enjoying this blogging thing, sure do miss it!

Well I had this recipe pinned to my Sweet Curiosity pinterest board for a while now, maybe close to a year? I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but with all the oatmeal we have stocked up in this house, I think it’s about time to try it when I break them out to make my oatmeal cookies! I am not a BIG fan of lemon, but in a cream/cake or anything yummy, I can handle it 🙂

they look delightful, right? Okay maybe they aren’t so festive, but I am not much of a summer baker because it’s just too darn hot to turn on the oven, so I find that these will be perfect for my fall/winter baking seasons LOL. You can find the FULL recipe with extra photos on The Pioneer Woman’s website (you know, that chick from The Food Network) So how about the recipe?! 🙂

Creamy Lemon Crumb Squares

Prep Time:15 Minutes     Cook Time:25 Minutes     Difficulty:Easy     Servings:12

Ingredients

  • 1-1/3 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 stick (1/2 Cup) Butter, Slightly Softened
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (lightly Packed)
  • 1 cup Oats
  • 1 can (14 Oz. Size) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1/2 cup Lemon Juice
  • Zest Of 1 Lemon

Preparation Instructions

PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES.

Mix butter and brown sugar until well combined.

Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.

Add oats and flour to butter/sugar mixture and mix to combine.

Press half of crumb mixture into the bottom of an 8 x 11 inch pan.

Mix together condensed milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Spread onto the bottom layer of the crumb mixture. Top with the other half of the crumb mixture, but don’t press.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow pan to sit on counter for 30 minutes after baking. Cut into squares and refrigerate for a couple of hours or until cool.

Serve cool.

Sounds super easy! DEFFINITELY giving this a try sooner than later 😉 Hope I got your tummies rumbling! Have a wonderful hump day!

DIY Tuesday * NEW EDITION TO THE AYD BLOG!

Hey guys! Amanda here to bring you a new weekly post on the AYD blog! I have put my head together with my FAB CT Lead, Teresa and we have tons of new things coming from both the blog and the fan page on a DAILY basis! Tuesdays, here on the blog I will be bringing you all neat DIY projects 🙂 I love getting my hands dirty when I can find the time, and I know some of you do too!

This weeks DIY project has been recently added to my pinterest account, mainly because it’s that time of year, and I need a little fun change in how I do things. I AM TALKING ABOUT THOSE HOLIDAY CARDS, PEOPLE! I have an arch way that separates my living room from the dining room, so I usually grab some scotch tape and hang them up along the sides of the arch way. It’s great, but I do tend to find some on the floor as I walk by, and that gets quite frustrating! And you know what… I want it to look better! LOL. I found this pin from the Thyme and Honey and I HAD to add it to my list of projects to try! I am sure we can all find somethings in our stash and around the house to put something like this together! (the trouble is finding the right spot) but we can make it work, right? 🙂

Looks great right? Yes it will take me some time to get this all together, but I am determined! I love the idea of utilizing washi tape & it won’t ruin the walls, because apparently I did not know that the scotch tape I used the past few years would peel off some paint on the wall! GAH! LOL

Well here is the how to from Thyme is Honey 🙂

“I created this little tree for hanging cards using washi tape, string, a tinsel garland, tacks, a red glitter star from Target and IKEA Riktig clips ($2.99).

Start by placing the tape on the wall in evenly spaced rows, then alternate string/tinsel on each layer using tacks to hold it in place. I also made little ornaments by putting washi tape on paper and cutting them out in circles. Lastly, add the Riktig Clips (from IKEA) to each layer and wait for the cards to arrive in the mail!”

Easy enough right? Well I am going to get started on mine!

Hope you all enjoyed the first ever DIY post from the AYD blog, and here is a lineup each week!
