Hi there!
When I was a traditional scrapper I’d do lots of things to attempt a ‘grungy’ look on the occasional page. I had a tearer, for edges. I’d ink them. I’d wrinkle paper up into a little ball, then smooth it back out. I’d stamp randomly on papers, and then spatter with ink. You name it, I probably played with it!
Digital scrapping makes all of those intensive, and usually messy, looks so easy to accomplish! One of my favorite looks is some grunge, and now I know it can be bright and have lots of white space, too!
Grunge is a ‘fashion’ or a style. It loosely means how we dress, or what we use, that is cheap, when we have no money to spend.
What I wanted to share this week, to motivate you, is that we can find so many ways out there to get our ‘fix’ of grunge on our digital layouts without it costing a cent!
1. Use the filters and features in your scrapping program to tear edges and add textures, put overlays on top that give a roughed up look, and use some great grungy fonts for your titles. All of this can be used with your existing stash – even totally non-grungy pieces, to give a whole new life to your layout!
2. If you visit Simple Pleasure Designs blog you’ll see this awesome freebie mini kit (see my page below) – Real Life Grunged! (While you are there hit the Facebook freebie for a great frame cluster to match!) PLUS if you visit Real Life Scrapped where she is the featured designer there is a coupon for 30% off any of her kits, which are all wonderfully grungy!
***This layout has a bonus – the template is also a freebie! Go to LissyKayDesigns GingerScraps August Challenge to get it!***
3. For just a few more days you could do a blog hop for a TON of pieces, that feature a bit of a grungy look. DigiScrap Parade’s Authentic blog hop is still going on, don’t miss it!
***This template is a new one from LissyKayDesigns – My{Summer}Story. ***
Look at kits with fresh eyes. Recognize the possibilities of a grungy look. Find the pieces already ‘roughed up’ and play with them, and the papers, and make your own awesomely grungy layout soon! Amanda’s collab with Re Kneipp You’re the One that I Want is a perfect example, with some wonderful colors and pieces that I just want to tear and filter and play with!
Have a wonderful week, see you next time!
